Saint Cajetan's feast day is celebrated on 7 August. Jesuit missionary Eusebio Kino in 1691 established the mission San Cayetano de Tumacácori in honour of Cajetan. It is now Tumacacori National Historical Park in Arizona.

St. Cajetan is the patron saint of the unemployed, job seekers, and workers. He is also the patron saint of Italy, Argentina, and Brazil. Additionally, he is invoked for gambling and good fortune.

Like most of us, Cajetan seemed headed for an “ordinary” life—first as a lawyer, then as a priest engaged in the work of the Roman Curia.

His life took a characteristic turn when he joined the Oratory of Divine Love in Rome, a group devoted to piety and charity, shortly after his ordination at 36. When he was 42 he founded a hospital for incurables at Venice. At Vicenza, he joined a “disreputable” religious community that consisted only of men of the lowest stations of life—and was roundly censured by his friends, who thought his action was a reflection on his family. He sought out the sick and poor of the town and served them.

The greatest need of the time was the reformation of a Church that was “sick in head and members.” Cajetan and three friends decided that the best road to reformation lay in reviving the spirit and zeal of the clergy. Together they founded a congregation known as the Theatines—from Teate [Chieti] where

their first superior-bishop had his see. One of the friends later became Pope Paul IV.

Let us begin by dedicating Nine Days to this Novena in which we place before St. Cajetan our intentions and needs.

Glorious Saint Cajetan, acclaimed by all people to be the father of providence because you provide miraculous aid to all who come to you in need, I stand here before you today humbly asking that you present to the Lord the requests that I confidently deposit in your hands.

May these graces that I now request help me to always seek the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, knowing that God Who dresses with beauty the flowers of the field and abundantly feeds the birds of the sky will grant me all other things. Amen. Saint Cajetan, pray for us!

“Glorious Saint Cajetan, patron of the unemployed, I humbly come before you, seeking your intercession in finding employment. Your example of generosity and service to others has always been a source of inspiration to me. You chose to live a life of simplicity and dedicated yourself to helping those in need, especially the poor.

Just as you provided for the material needs of others, I ask that you help me find a job that not only provides for my daily needs but also allows me to contribute to society and live with dignity. I know that God provides for all our needs, but I seek your guidance and intercession in finding a job that is suitable for my skills and talents.

May you help me to be patient and persevere in my job search, and to always trust in God's providence. I also ask for your blessing and guidance in making wise decisions about my career and life.

Saint Cajetan, pray for us! Amen."

Novena a San Cayetano

La festividad de San Cayetano se celebra el 7 de agosto. El misionero jesuita Eusebio Kino fundó en 1691 la misión de San Cayetano de Tumacácori en honor a Cayetano. Actualmente, es el Parque Histórico Nacional de Tumacácori, en Arizona.

San Cayetano es el santo patrón de los desempleados, quienes buscan trabajo y los trabajadores. También es el santo patrón de Italia, Argentina y Brasil. Además, se le invoca para el juego y la buena fortuna.

Como la mayoría de nosotros, Cayetano parecía encaminarse hacia una vida “ordinaria”: primero como abogado, luego como sacerdote comprometido con el trabajo de la Curia romana.

Su vida dio un giro característico cuando se unió al Oratorio del Divino Amor en Roma, un grupo dedicado a la piedad y la caridad, poco después de su ordenación a los 36 años. Que estas gracias que ahora solicito me ayuden a buscar siempre el Reino de Dios y su justicia, sabiendo que Dios, que viste de hermosura las flores del campo y alimenta abundantemente a las aves del cielo, me concederá todo lo demás. Amén. San Cayetano, ¡ruega por nosotros!

Así como proveíste para las necesidades materiales de otros, te pido que me ayudes a encontrar un trabajo que no solo cubra mis necesidades diarias, sino que también me permita contribuir a la sociedad y vivir con dignidad.
