My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

On July 7th, 1997, the Evangelical Catholic Church was consecrated into pastoral service to witness the Sacramental, Liturgical and Scriptural life of Catholicism.

Today, I sincerely welcome you back to the post-Covid Evangelical Catholic Church and our new retooled and mostly bi-lingual website. The ECC is most grateful and forever indebted to Emily Novak Wykes for her consultations and reviews of our pages written in Spanish and also to Kris Luck of Quest Network Services for bringing this new version of our website into the 21st Century.

Unlike most Welcoming Messages, I wish to admit up front that this message is not a sugar coated one. Rather it is a blunt and realistic assessment of the journey ahead for the Evangelical Catholic Church along with goals and plans of action to achieve our reestablishment.

I hope that your reactions to our honesty will be open and positive.

Now that we have emerged from our hibernation, the very first item on our agenda is to rebuild our community and to embrace solid and positive steps to reestablish ourselves to the best position possible to resume the celebration of our vocation.

Bricks for the Future

I believe that the ECC’s plan of action for rebuilding must be the “brick by brick” method with the first brick being able to identify appropriate avenues of reengagement with the People of God to remind them of who we are today.

As soon as humanly possible, I hope begin the process of returning to local Chicago television to resume the production of our program Evangelical Catholic Life. This program ran for five seasons and helped us to build a community here in Chicago and I hope we can do this once again.

The “second brick” will be of no surprise to anyone – recruiting vocations to the priesthood, deaconate and religious life along with candidates for clerical and religious incardination. We simply cannot provide sacramental care without deacons and priests. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will bless us with candidates who will be able to joyfully witness our evangelical charism in the celebration of the sacraments. The Evangelical Catholic Church has had more than enough of its share of dysfunctional and unhealthy opportunists. We need psychologically and spiritually healthy individuals to serve the People of God. And I am also especially praying for candidates who are bi-lingual.

The “third brick” will be our continuing invitation to all, especially those who find themselves pastorally orphaned, to join us in forming communities to celebrate and partake of the gifts of the Sacraments. Without having the People of God to experience our celebration of Catholicism – we will have nothing.

As you visit our modest web site, I hope that you may find our jurisdiction one that may be worthy of your consideration and possible participation.

Sharing the Work Ahead

In this coming process, I will be somewhat limited in how much “heavy lifting” I can do. About four years ago, I was diagnosed with progressive hardening of the heart, aka: Heart Failure Level C that has rendered me with limitations on what I can and cannot do physically. Thus, the success of our reestablishing will co-depend on the willingness of others when it does come to share with the heavy lifting. I am praying that God send us individuals who can still find hope and excitement in their journey in faith.

Let me concluded by thanking you for taking the time to visit our reconstructed and updated website and to read and consider this Welcoming Message. I realize that this message is somewhat different in tone than found on other websites, but I have always believed in laying my cards upon the table in the spirit of honesty and full disclosure.

Hoy les doy la más sincera bienvenida a la Iglesia Católica Evangélica post-Covid y a nuestro nuevo sitio web, renovado y prácticamente bilingüe. La ECC agradece profundamente a Emily Novak Wykes por sus consultas y revisiones de nuestras páginas en español, y también a Kris Luck de Quest Network Services por adaptar esta nueva versión de nuestro sitio web al siglo XXI.

A diferencia de la mayoría de los mensajes de bienvenida, quiero admitir desde el principio que este no es un mensaje edulcorado. Es, más bien, una evaluación directa y realista del camino que le espera a la Iglesia Católica Evangélica, junto con los objetivos y planes de acción para lograr su restablecimiento.

Espero que reaccionéis con espíritu positivo.

Ahora que hemos salido de nuestra hibernación, el primer punto en nuestra agenda es reconstruir nuestra comunidad y adoptar pasos sólidos y positivos para restablecernos en la mejor posición posible para reanudar la celebración de nuestra vocación.

Ladrillos para el futuro.

Creo que el plan de acción de la ECC para la reconstrucción debe ser el método "ladrillo a ladrillo", siendo el primer ladrillo la capacidad de identificar vías apropiadas para reconectarse con el Pueblo de Dios y recordarles quiénes son hoy.

Tan pronto como sea humanamente posible, espero comenzar el proceso de regresar a la televisión local de Chicago para reanudar la producción de nuestro programa Vida Católica Evangélica. Este programa se emitió durante cinco temporadas y nos ayudó a construir una comunidad aquí en Chicago, y creo que podemos lograrlo una vez más.

El "segundo ladrillo" no sorprenderá a nadie: reclutar vocaciones al sacerdocio, al diaconado y a la vida religiosa, junto con candidatos para la incardinación clerical y religiosa. Simplemente no podemos brindar atención sacramental sin diáconos y sacerdotes. Ruego que el Espíritu Santo nos bendiga con candidatos que puedan dar testimonio con alegría de nuestro carisma evangélico en la celebración de los sacramentos. La Iglesia Católica Evangélica ya ha tenido suficiente de oportunistas disfuncionales y poco saludables. Necesitamos personas psicológica y espiritualmente sanas para servir al Pueblo de Dios. Y también rezo especialmente por candidatos bilingües.

Compartiendo el trabajo por delante

En este proceso que se avecina, tendré algunas limitaciones en cuanto a la carga de trabajo que puedo realizar. Hace unos cuatro años, me diagnosticaron un endurecimiento cardíaco progresivo, también conocido como insuficiencia cardíaca de nivel C, que me ha limitado físicamente. Por lo tanto, el éxito de nuestra recuperación dependerá de la disposición de los demás cuando llegue el momento y de que compartan la carga de trabajo. Ruego que Dios nos envíe personas que aún encuentren esperanza y entusiasmo en su camino de fe.
